I first got introduced to aviation in December 2022 during a field trip with AFJROTC. Cadets in the program had the opportunity to learn about the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and fly with experienced pilots from various backgrounds. We even got to take control of the aircraft for a little while. It was a discovery flight for us, and from that moment on, I wanted to know more about aviation. The feedback I received from the pilot was incredibly inspiring, and I went home wondering how I could become the next pilot in the United States Air Force.
The idea of becoming a pilot felt like a fairy tale at first, especially since no one in my family had ever gone to college or had a career before. But I knew this was the only thing I wanted to do in life. I researched the steps needed to become a pilot, and five months later, I joined a local flight school to begin my journey.
It has been a blessing to do what I love at such an early age, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. However, it has been extremely challenging financially for me to fully learn and succeed as a student pilot. I have no financial support for my lessons, as my parents and relatives are unable to help due to their financial instability.
What inspired me to pursue aviation was my JROTC instructor, a retired flight engineer who spent most of his career flying KC-10s. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and has always been supportive, encouraging me every step of the way. Knowing that he shares an interest in aviation motivates me to make him proud.
My family doesn’t come from much, but they have inspired me to go after what I want—not just in aviation, but in life. They teach me not to let my past or current circumstances hold me back. My family inspires me to work harder, pursue my dreams, and strive to become more—to become an overachiever. I will be a first-generation college student, first-generation military veteran, and first-generation pilot. I want to prove to others that it doesn’t matter where you come from, what you look like, or what your past or present circumstances are; you can still achieve your big goals.
Aviation refers to the operation of aircraft. It involves the design, development, production, operation, and use of aircraft, including airplanes, helicopters, and other flying machines.
Aviation is the field that deals with all aspects of flying aircraft and plays a vital role in modern society for transportation, commerce, and recreation.
